Cable Television Advisory Committee
The Cable Television Advisory Committee consists of volunteers that are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. It was formed in the early 1980s when the Township's first cable franchise agreement was approved. Tredyffrin is on its second 15-year franchise; negotiations are underway for a third that will go into effect in 2011. Since 1980, Tredyffrin has passed the franchise through three companies: Harron, Adelphia and most recently, Comcast Cable Communications. In 2006, Tredyffrin negotiated and passed a new franchise agreement with Verizon to provide the Township with additional cable options.
The mission of the CATV committee is four-fold: 1) negotiate with cable companies for franchise agreements; 2) manage the franchise to make sure the companies are doing what they agreed to do; 3) oversee the Township's public access station; and 4) act as a consumer advocate for residents on issues such as billing, lapses in service and equipment.
