Rebuilding of the Jones Log Barn
The Building Committee and the Trust reached a major milestone as Frens & Frens Restoration Architects of West Chester completed the Schematic Design Report for the Log Barn. The report included historical research, an assessment of the stored materials, and a schematic design for the reconstruction.
The significant findings were that the logs date from 1781-1782, conclusively placing the structure after the Encampment of 1777-78.
The logs have held up well in storage since December 2000, and with the 1803 oak rafters will form the second story and roof of the reconstructed barn, a rare example of the two crib English Lake District type. The ultimate build out would include a stone foundation and lower level with program space, and a forebay to provide access to the cribs on the upper level.
