Sidewalks, Trails, and Paths Projects
Paoli Trail Connections
The purpose of the Paoli Trail Connections study is twofold. First, Tredyffrin Township has the goal of making downtown Paoli more walkable for residents and local merchants. Second, the Township wished to evaluate opportunities to enhance pedestrian and bicycle travel between central Paoli, including the SEPTA rail station, and the Chester Valley Trail.
This report was funded through an Efficient Growth for Growing Suburbs (EGGS) grant from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and a grant from the William Penn Foundation.

Chester Valley Trail
The Chester Valley Trail is planned for a former railroad right of way between Chester County's Struble Trail in Downingtown Borough through the length of Tredyffrin Township to the Chester County/Montgomery County line in King of Prussia. From that point, Montgomery County hopes to establish a link over the Schuylkill Expressway to the Schuylkill River Trail in Norristown. Phase 1, between Valley Creek Blvd in Exton and Route 29 in East Whiteland, opened in September 2010. Phase 2, between Route 29 and the Tredyffrin/Upper Merion township line, is in design.
The Patriot's Path
The The Patriot's Path is a proposed trail network in East Whiteland Township, Malvern Borough and Tredyffrin Township. Trails, sidewalks and other pathways will link three area historic sites with American Revolutionary War significance via the Chester Valley Trail (see below), Valley Forge National Historical Park in Tredyffrin, Battle of the Clouds Park in East Whiteland, and Paoli Battlefield Grounds in Malvern. For more information, please visit the Patriot's Path page.

- Stormwater Management Measures - The project incorporated several innovative stormwater management measures, also known as Best Management Practices BMPs), that are designed to manage stormwater runoff produced by the installation of the sidewalks, as well as manage some additional roadway runoff currently affecting the area. The Stormwater BMPs consist of shallow infiltration trenches underneath the proposed sidewalk and in several vegetated curbed bump-out areas along the proposed sidewalk route. Additional storm sewer inlets were placed along the roadway shoulder in coordination with underground piping throughout the infiltration trenches, which will direct remaining stormwater to the existing storm sewer system.
- Traffic Calming Measures - The project included a variety of measures that will allow for safer pedestrian travel, as well as aid in further control of vehicular traffic. Along the sidewalk route, pedestrian crosswalks were provided at each roadway crossing. Additional pedestrian crossing signage will be provided at crosswalk locations. In addition, two (2) raised pedestrian crosswalks were installed on Old Lancaster Road. In addition, on Conestoga Road between Irish Road and Old Lancaster Road shoulders, signage, and lane striping were provided to control and calm traffic flow through the curve. The Township and Consultant Team also invested revisions to the existing PennDOT school zone permits to further define and clarify the school zone limits. PennDOT did not allow the Township to make any changes to the school zones.
