Accessible (Handicapped) Parking Requirements
Location: (ICC International Building Code, Section 1106.6)
- Accessible parking spaces shall be located on the shortest accessible route of travel from adjacent parking to the building or facility's accessible entrance.
Auto: (ICC International Building Code, Table 1106.1)
- Minimum one (1) accessible parking space per twenty-five (25). Minimum requirements increase from 100 spaces and up.
- Vehicle parking spaces shall be ninety-six (96) inches wide.
Van: (ICC International Building Code, Section 1106.5)
- Minimum one (1) van accessible parking space for every six (6) or less.
- Vehicle parking spaces shall be ninety-six (96) inches wide.
Access Aisles: (ICC American National Standard Institute, Section 502.3)
- Accessible parking shall be served by an aisle width of not less then sixty (60) inches and continue the length of the space.
- Van accessible parking shall be served by an aisle width of not less then ninety-six (96) inches and continues the length of the space.
- Two (2) parking spaces shall be permitted to share a common accessible aisle.
- Accessible aisle shall be mark so to discourage parking in them. (Preferred markings are diagonal hashed throughout the entire aisle.
- Access aisles shall be park of the accessible route to the building or facility's entrance.
Signage: (ICC American National Standard Institute, Section 502.6), (PA Department of Transportation, PUB 236), (PA Crimes Code & Vehicle Law, 75 Pa.C.S. Section 3361(3) (i))
- When accessible parking sign are required, they shall include the International Symbol for Accessibility.
- When accessible parking sign are required, they shall include the penalty amount if found in violation along with possible towing.
- Signs shall be install at a minimum height of Sixty (60) inches above the floor or ground surface to the bottom of the sign.
- Standard size for all accessible signs, fines and towing is 12" x 18"
