Sewer Department
The Tredyffrin Township Sewer and Utility Department maintains approximately 133.6 miles of sewer line, 3,840 manholes, nine pump stations and street lights. These facilities are owned by the Tredyffrin Township Municipal Authority, while the Township operates and maintains them. This system of gravity lines, force mains, and pump stations convey sewage to one of four sewage treatment plants: Valley Forge Sewer Authority (Phoenixville), Trout Run (Upper Merion), Matsunk (Upper Merion), and Delcora (Chester).
Tredyffrin Township is also the owner of the Valley Creek Trunk Sewer. This trunk line conveys sewage from 6 member municipalities (Tredyffrin, Easttown, East Whiteland, Malvern Borough, Willistown Township, and Valley Forge Sewer Authority) to the treatment plant at the Valley Forge Sewer Authority.
Please note that the Township pays for sewage treatment "by the gallon." The reduction of Infiltration and Inflow (I & I) can help reduce sewage treatment costs. How can residents help? In several ways: by making sure sump pumps are not connected to the sewer, clean outs are at least 6 inches above the ground and cupped, and by keeping their service connections (laterals) in good shape. The less illicit connects to the sewer system, the less we all pay in treatment costs.

Guidelines for waste water discharge (including swimming pool and hot tubs):
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulates waste water discharge and has provided guidelines for waste water discharge that all residents must follow.
Authorized discharge into the sanitary sewer system: One option residents have to comply with DEP's guidelines is to discharge water into the sanitary sewer system - with Township approval. The Public Works Department will grant approval if the residents follow the DEP Guidelines for waste water disposal, the water conforms to the sewage treatment plant requirements, and there is a public sewer in close proximity to the pool discharge point. The cost for the discharge is $6.51 per thousand (1,000) gallons.
Pool Water Discharge Permit
Complaints about improper water disposal: If a resident is reported to be discharging waste water into any street or stream, or into the sanitary sewer system without Township approval, please contact the Township (610-644-1400) immediately. If a resident needs to report improper waste water disposal after business hours, please call the Police (911).
