Sewer Revenue Frequently Asked Questions

When do I get my sewer bill?
Sewer bills are mailed out on or about April 1 each year.

Does my mortgage company pay my sewer bill?
Most mortgage companies do not pay sewer bills from your escrow account. This is a utility, not a tax.

How much will my sewer bill be?
Sewers are billed at $200 per EDU (Equivalent Dwelling Unit) per year. This is a flat rate and has nothing to do with water usage. Each single family dwelling is billed at 1EDU. Commercial buildings are billed by calculating EDUs by the square footage of the building. (see Chapter 163-7 of the Township Codified Ordinance: "Sewers, Utilities, and Sewage Disposal" - Schedule A and B).

Why does my bill say it is for the previous year?
Tredyffrin back bills for sewer usage.

I did not own my property for all of the previous year. Why did I receive a bill for the entire year?
Sewer rent is pro-rated at settlement by your title company. Because we back bill, the seller should give the buyer their portion of the sewer rent due for the year and the new owner will receive and pay the full year's bill. You should check your settlement sheet to make sure this did happen. If you have questions or concerns, you should call the title company for assistance.

I sold this property, what should I do with the bill?
Because we do not always get title transfers before the sewer billing is made, we do not always have the proper names and mailing addresses for our sewer notices. Please return the notice to the Township Sewer Revenue Office stating you are no longer the property owner, and include the new owner's name, if you know it.

My name and/or mailing address have changed and I did not get a bill. What should I do?
Call or email the Sewer Revenue Office and ask for a reprint of your bill. Failure to receive a bill does not forgive your sewer rental due. It is the responsibility of the property owner to notify the sewer revenue office of any change of address. The notices are mailed to the last known address for each property.

How long do I have to pay my bill?
Sewer bills are due 30 days after the billing date. This date will be printed on the notice.

What happens if my payment is late?
A 10 percent penalty will be added to the amount due if your payment is late. Payments must be received in the Township Sewer Revenue Office by the due date to avoid penalty.

What if I do not pay my sewer bill?
If sewer bills become two years past due, the property owner will be sent a reminder letter. If payment is not received, a municipal lien will be filed against the property with an additional charge of $125 in penalty and filing fees. This lien will stay in place until the lien amount is paid in full.

How do I find out where my sewer line is?
There are diagrams showing location of sewer lines for most properties in the Township. Stop by the Township building and a staff member will pull your property card and show you where it is.

My sewer line is blocked, what do I do?
The line from the street to the building is the responsibility of the property owner and a plumber should be called to clear any blockages. If there is a blockage in the sewer main, the Township will have it cleared.
