Through The Kindness of Strangers: Historical Documentary Update
Sage Film & Video filmmakers, Jane Pollini and Deborah Arnold have now completed the trailer' for the special historical documentary, Tredyffrin…The First 300 Years. The trailer is being shown in various locations throughout the Township and on Public Access Channel 2. Pattye Benson, Executive Producer on the documentary project, reports many wonderful mementos, photos and people have helped tell the story of Tredyffrin's history.
One such story was the discovery of some very old footage of Valley Forge from the 1920's. Pattye was 'surfing' the YouTube.com website and stumbled across an exciting old home movie. Upon closer examination, it was determined that this Anders Family footage was filmed in our community. Pattye contacted the current film's owner, Tom Martin of Virginia and he explained that the original home movie was filmed by Charles Marshall, Sr., an opera singer in the 1920's, during a family outing to Valley Forge. Mr. Martin graciously loaned the original 1929 movie to Pattye Benson for use in the historical documentary. Due to the film's value, age and fragile condition, Pattye had the film professionally copied in Philadelphia and then returned the original with a copy to Mr. Martin.
Pattye truly understands the phrase, "through the kindness of strangers"; how exciting to have such a special home movie included in the documentary. The completed historical documentary premiered at an outdoor venue at Wilson Farm Park on the evening of Saturday, September 15, 2007. See www.tredyffrinhistory.org for details on how you can purchase a copy of Tredyffrin…The First 300 Years!

Bobby Barajas, owner of Howellville Headquarters is being helped with sound equipment by filmmaker, Jane Pollini. Mr. Barajas, interviewed in his barbershop for the historical documentary, provided wonderful stories about "growing up" in Tredyffrin. Howellville was the earliest village in Tredyffrin Township and at one time boasted of two inns, blacksmith and wheelwright shops, a gristmill and several sawmills. |

Filmmaker, Jane Pollini (left) is consulting with Walt Lapinsky (center) prior to his interview. Mr. Jeff Benson, shown on the right and Mr. Lapinsky are both employees of Unisys Corporation, on Swedesford Road in Malvern, the location of this interview. In 1954, Burroughs Corporation (which later became Unisys Corporation) moved in to Tredyffrin Township and was originally located on Rt. 252 at Central Avenue in Paoli. Mr. Lapinksy was hired as summer help at Burroughs during his college days in the 1960's, and was able to provide information about Burroughs move to Paoli and the early days of the company in Tredyffrin. A very early computer, a 1951 UNIVAC 2, is featured in the background of the photo. |
