Special Operations Team

The Tredyffrin Township Police Special Operations Team (SOT) is responsible for responding to and successfully resolving high-risk police incidents that require the use of specialized equipment and the implementation of specialized police tactical training.

The Specialized Operations Team consists of 11 members of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department who were selected through a process of physical, psychological and performance assessments. SOT training is conducted on a regular basis to ensure the team is prepared and ready to respond to high-risk incidents. Periodically, Tredyffrin's SOT trains with FBI, Pennsylvania State Police (SERT), Philadelphia Police, and local SWAT Teams, along with medical service personnel.

The Tredyffrin SOT established a Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT High Risk Incident training course and field training exercise for SWAT teams, the Less Lethal Tactical Intervention training course, and the Immediate Action - Rapid Deployment to Continuing Explosives Incidents and Post Blast Incidents training course, each were adopted by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) as model SWAT training programs for future NTOA training.

The Tredyffrin SOT also established the SWAT Selection Process, which is used by some police department and FBI field office SWAT teams. The SOT is available to conduct the SWAT Selection Process and SWAT training courses for other law enforcement agencies.

The SOT is a tool of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department for the safety of the community it serves. All of the Special Operations Team officers perform their duties with a tactical mind-set.
