Howellville Road Bridge Before Replacement
In 2019, work continued on a project that includes removal and replacement of the existing roadway bridge over the Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks near the Field of Dreams and Berwyn PECO complex along Howellville Road in Tredyffrin Township.
Final design was completed and approved by Norfolk-Southern and PennDOT. Agreements were finalized with PECO for advanced Pole and Utility line relocation's. The Township also received structural adequacy approvals from PennDOT, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Final Secretarial Letter for the Project, as well as continued working with Norfolk-Southern railroad to obtain the approvals for the Final Bridge Replacement Design Plans and Agreements.
The Township advertised and awarded the contractor for the construction phase of the project to Lobar Site Development Corporation. Construction Notice to Proceed (NTP) was issued in January 2020, and work is expected to continue throughout the 2020 calendar year.
The project is funded by the Municipal Bridge Retro-Reimbursement Program (MBRP) from the DVRPC and PennDOT; as well as funds from Tredyffrin Township and Norfolk-Southern.
Once completed, the new bridge will provide a wider bridge deck with two minimum 10-foot lanes, and two 5-foot shoulders (30-feet in total) versus the existing 19.5-foot width. The wider bridge deck will allow for safer movement of motorist, bicyclist, and other users. In addition, the Township worked with PennDOT and Tioga County and will transfer the existing bridge trusses to Tioga County for reuse in a future trail bridge project.
