Location: Tredyffrin Public Library, Strafford, PA and Paoli Public Library, Paoli, PA
Schedule: Full-time (includes evenings and occasional weekends)
Reports to: Children’s Librarian (Tredyffrin Library)

Tredyffrin Public Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and community-minded Children’s Programming Specialist to support our library’s Children’s Department. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality, inclusive programs that promote early literacy, curiosity, and a love of reading for children and families of all backgrounds. The Children’s Programming Specialist will work one day a week at the Paoli Public Library.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, promoting, and facilitating children’s programs such as Storytimes, STEM/STEAM activities, arts and crafts, and summer reading events for children in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade
  • Support early literacy initiatives through interactive programming and caregiver engagement
  • Coordinate teen volunteers; recruits, train, and schedule school year and summer volunteers
  • Prepare materials, set up program spaces, and clean up after events
  • Provide friendly, responsive customer service to children, caregivers, and general library patrons
  • Contribute to outreach efforts with local schools, daycare centers, and community organizations
  • Help create displays and promotional materials for youth programs and collections
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and program records
  • Assist with general public service tasks, including helping patrons locate materials and use library resources
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Experience working with children
  • Library experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, especially with diverse populations
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a busy public service environment
  • Creativity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for working with children and families
  • Basic computer and technology skills
  • Must have be able to obtain PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance, and PA State Police Clearance before date of hire
  • Pass a pre-hire drug screen test

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move actively during programs
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (program materials, books, equipment)
  • Comfortably sitting on the floor and engaging at children’s level

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt, non-union position with an hourly range between $25 and $28 an hour based on experience
