Thinking of kicking your old, obsolete computer or television to the curb on trash night? Don’t do it because your trash company will no longer collect them.

There is a disposal ban on a host of electronic devices, which is covered in the final provision of the Pennsylvania Covered Device Recycling Act, signed into law by former Gov. Ed Rendell in 2010. As mandated by the CDRA, it will become illegal for desktop computers, laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals such as printers, keyboards, and mouses, tablets like iPads and Kindles, and televisions with viewable screens larger than four inches to be disposed of in state landfills. All of that “e-waste” must be recycled instead. Cell phones and PDAs are exempt from the law.

Chester County Solid Waste Authority will now be accepting up to a total of 3 televisions and computers per household and select small electronics(PDF, 344KB) at their drop off facility, located at 7224 Division Highway, Narvon, PA 17555. There is no charge for this service. Households/residents only - No businesses.
