Crabby Creek Stormwater Infiltration/Retrofit Project
UPDATE (March 4, 2024): On January 11, 2024, the Township held its public meeting for our Crabby Creek Stormwater Infiltration/Retrofit Project at the Tredyffrin Township Municipal Building. The meeting was well attended with residents in the project area. The Township and our engineering consultants from Jacobs provided a project update, a short presentation, and answered questions from local residents. The Crabby Creek Stormwater Infiltration/Retrofit Project will be installing various underground stormwater storage system(s) beneath sections of Williams Lane, Beechwood Road, Lizabeth Lane and Laurel Lane that will capture, store, and infiltrate stormwater runoff coming off the roadways and upstream drainage areas around these various roadway to help reduce stormwater flooding and improve water quality in the immediate downstream areas of Tredyffrin Township in the Crabby Creek (EV) and Little Valley Creek (EV) Watersheds. It will benefit residents living along Williams Lane, Beechwood Road, Lizabeth Lane, and Laurel Lane, as well as those resident living further downstream on Oak Lane, Greene Road, Walnut Lane and the Township’s Crabby Creek Park.
The Township is working with Jacobs and the Valley Creek Restoration Partnership (VCRP), who have developed the stormwater plans, and obtained over $476,000 of grant funding for the project. The project was advertised on PennBID on Friday, March 1, 2024 and bids are due on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11am. Once bids are submitted, the Township will then select the contractor and manage/oversee the contractor and construction activities associated with this project(s). Depending on final bids costs, the project is setup to be phased using the existing grant dollars to maximize the number of roadway stormwater systems in Phase 1 and then work with VCRP, Jacobs and the Township Board of Supervisors for additional funding to complete any unfunded roadway segments of the project.
Construction is proposed to begin on or after May 1, 2024 and be substantially complete in October 2024.
If residents have any questions they can contact the Township Engineering Department at 610-408-3626 or e-mail EngineeringDept@tredyffrin.org. Continue to check the Township website for updates as they become available.
Township Engineering Staff are coordinating with the Valley Creek Restoration Partnership (VCRP) to design multiple stormwater underground infiltration basins in Crabby Creek watershed, which flows into Little Valley Creek. Multiple systems on multiple Township roadways are expected to be installed in Crabby Creek with this project. The VCRP received PADEP Growing Greener Grant and are working with a stormwater consultant to design and permit their projects. They will be partnering with the Township, as per past projects in the Township for construction bidding and inspections.
- PADEP is funding Project at $250,000
- VCRP is funding a portion of the required match funds for engineering design
- Tredyffrin Township will be engaged to advertise, bid and oversee construction and future maintenance of these stormwater improvements.
