Home Rule Charter Amendment FAQs

Why did you decide to make any changes?

The original document was drafted in 1974 and presented to the voters at the primary election in May of that year. It took effect January 4, 1976.  From that point on, it has never been reviewed or amended.

While it remains a wonderful foundation for our governmental operations, it was time to take a wholistic look to be sure the document meets the need of Tredyffrin Township in the present day.

There was outdated language, requirements that have become very challenging with use of modern technology, positions that are no longer needed with new reporting requirements and the need to reform of the timing relating to finance and budgets.

What changes did the Charter Review Committee make to the document? What are the impacts?

All the changes, many of which are administrative, and some are not, can be reviewed in a full redlined document below.

Changing the Charter can also impact the Administrative Code.  That document was also updated and can be reviewed below.

How does the updated Charter become 'official'?

It will require the voters of Tredyffrin Township to vote for the changes when a referendum is presented at general primary or general election.  The Board of Supervisors is targeting to have this on the ballot in the November General Election to reach the most voters in the Township.

The Charter & Administrative Code updates below are recommendations to the Board of Supervisors from the Charter Review Committee. They have not been acted upon or approved by the BOS.
