Glenhardie Road Closure Update

The Township and our contractor, PJ Reilly, completed repairs in August of two (2) sinkholes on Glenhardie Road, near Trout Creek and the Glenhardie Road Bridge.  Repairs involved pressure and high mobility grouting and were directed by the Township bridge engineer, Michael Baker Intl. (MBI), who provided oversight during the drilling and pressure grouting of the roadway areas on Glenhardie Road.  The grouting was performed on both sides of the roadway on either side of the bridge and Trout Creek.  Following the sinkhole remediation/grouting operations, the roadway was resurfaced and was being prepared for final line striping and opening, when an additional sinkhole/settlement area developed along another portion of Glenhardie Road.  Since then, this area has been under monitoring as the Township awaits direction from MBI for future repairs.  The Township expects final decisions on the repairs shortly, and for PJ Reilly to make those repairs later this month. It should be noted, even though the more recent sinkhole is at the edge of the roadway, it still poses a safety risk and therefore, the Township cannot safely open the roadway to traffic at this time.

Following those repairs and the Township receiving the final clearance from MBI, the Township will schedule reopening of Glenhardie Road to traffic. The Township appreciates everyone’s patience, and the Township understands it is an inconvenience to detour around this area, especially after the longer 3-year closures associated with the PA Turnpike Expansion Project work.  The Township will provide more details on the opening date once the repairs are underway and nearing completion.
