Strafford Park Stormwater Improvement Project

The new Porous Asphalt Pavement and Underground Stormwater Bed are completed at Tredyffrin Township’s Strafford Park Parking Lot.

A final water test was completed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 and the surface of the new porous pavement drains well to take rainwater into the underground storage and infiltration bed.  The Township Engineering Department Stormwater Project started in December 2024 and is complete as of May 28, 2025.  The design was completed by Princeton-Hydro and construction by G & B Construction.

UPDATE (MARCH 4, 2024): On December 13, 2023, the Township held its second public meeting for the Strafford Park Parking Lot Stormwater Improvement Project at the Tredyffrin Township Library in Strafford, PA.  The meeting was well attended with residents in the project area. The Township and our engineering consultants from Princeton Hydro provided a project update, a short presentation, and answered questions from local residents.  Click here(PDF, 3MB) to see the presentation made at the December 13, 2023 public meeting.

The Strafford Park Parking Lot Stormwater Improvement Project will be installing a large underground stormwater storage system(s) beneath the existing stone parking lot to capture, store, and infiltrate stormwater runoff coming off the roadways and upstream drainage areas of Upper Gulph Road, McMull Drive, etc. to help reduce the flooding and improve water quality in the immediate downstream areas of Tredyffrin Township in the Gulph Creek Watershed.  It will benefit residents living along Hillside Road, Croton Road, Deepdale Road, Crestline Road and Beechtree Lane, as well as those resident living further down along the Gulph Creek.

Township is working with Princeton Hydro who is finalizing their stormwater plans, and the Township is looking to advertise this project by early April 2024 and begin construction in the summer.

If residents have any questions they can contact the Township Engineering Department at 610-408-3626 or e-mail EngineeringDept@tredyffrin.org. Continue to check the Township website for updates as they become available.

Tredyffrin Township is working with our stormwater consultant at Princeton-Hydro on a project that will expand and improve the existing Stormwater Wetland Basin in Strafford Park. The basin will be enlarged to provide greater flood storage capability and additional stormwater treatment wetland surface area that will help reduce pollutant loading to Gulph Creek, help in meeting some of the PADEP MS4 requirements, as well as provide additional flood reduction to residents living along section of Gulph Creek below the park property.

  • The Project will use American Recovery Funds for design and construction
  • Design – 2021-2022
  • Construction – 2023-2024
  • The Project also has potential to provide even greater benefit to local residents not only in Tredyffrin but downstream in Radnor Township. Radnor Township staff have reached out about working with the Township to partner in potential funding of additional stormwater volume reductions to further reduce downstream flooding.
