Sewer rent is pro-rated at settlement by your title company. Because we back bill, the seller should give the buyer their portion of the sewer rent due for the year and the new owner will receive and pay the full year's bill. You should check your settlement sheet to make sure this did happen. If you have questions or concerns, you should call the title company for assistance.
Because we do not always get title transfers before the sewer utility billing is made, we do not always have the proper names and mailing addresses for our sewer notices. Please return the notice to the Township Sewer Revenue Office stating you are no longer the property owner, and include the new owner's name, if you know it.
Call or email the Sewer Revenue Office and ask for a reprint of your bill. Failure to receive a bill does not forgive your sewer rental due. It is the responsibility of the property owner to notify the sewer revenue office of any change of address. The notices are mailed to the last known address for each property. For change of address please submit this form to the Sewer Revenue Office.
Sewer utility bills are due 30 days after the billing date. This date will be printed on the notice.
A 10% penalty will be added to the amount due if your payment is late. Payments must be received in the Township Sewer Revenue Office within 30 days of the billing date. After 60 days, interest will be added to the amount due at a rate of 0.5% per month or fraction thereof until paid.
If sewer utility bills become one year past due, the property owner will be sent a reminder letter. If payment is not received, a lien will be filed against the property with an additional charge of $125 in penalty and filing fees. This lien will stay in place until the lien amount is paid in full.
The sewer utility fee is a flat rate and has nothing to do with water usage. Each single family dwelling is billed at 1 EDU. Commercial buildings are billed by calculating EDUs. (see Chapter 163-7 of the Township Codified Ordinance: "Sewers, Utilities, and Sewage Disposal" - Schedule A and B).
The Township back bills for sewage usage.
Most mortgage companies do not pay sewer utility bills from your escrow account. This is a utility, not a tax.
Sewer utility bills are mailed out on or about April 1st of each year.
A tax certification costs $25 per parcel for the current year, Township only information. Checks should be made out to Tredyffrin Tax Office and mailed to 1100 Duportail Road, Berwyn PA, 19312. Expedited requests cost $100. Requests will be accepted via email or fax if sent with a copy of the check. The completed verification can also be emailed or faxed.
